I am the Technology Teacher at Holy Redeemer Catholic School (Pre-K-8^th), and I have shared some of your videos with my middle school students when discussing topics such as social media for income and engineering design. When you announced the competition, the students wanted me to make an entry to see how we could do using our lab tools (CO2 laser, 3d printer, drag knife cutter, and so on). I had never built an SCX24, but I have built many other things and decided to give it a try. I’m sure our humble truck will not stack up well against the likes of Boomslang and Veng, but it does seem to crawl on the Rocks in our drainage ditch well enough. The tires in the photo are 61mm, but we expect to have the 64’s in the price list any day now.

The truck chassis is 3mm acrylic cut with a laser. Many of the acrylic and plastic parts, including the stock links, have been heat-formed into their current shape. The stickers are AI-generated and cut with a Silhouette machine out of a shipping label sticker. The front tires have a stiff EVA foam core that is 8mm smaller than the diameter of the tire to allow for the BB’s in the tire as ballast, and of course, some squish. The original chassis was “YEPspec”; changes were needed to eliminate 3d printed parts and to add some strength in certain areas. I guess it is now a “YEPinspired” chassis.

Purple was chosen because that’s what we had the most scrap material for. Donor Trucks were used Basecamp and Gladiator trucks from eBay.
